(I'm no good at being formal and professional, so until someone forces me to change this. this is how we are doing things.) My name is Song Sihua, you can call me Hua or Song. I'm a multi-diciplinary artist, with a background in film and illustration. Much of my work has to do with my own personal life experiences, but recently I have been pivoting into exploring the role of narrative within our society and history as people. How do the stories that we have been told stick with us in ways that inform our personal characteristics as well as our society at large.
Outside of my primary artistic practice, I also tattoo, work with textiles, make small trinkets, and whatever else I randomly get into. I've helped build sets for theater productions, crocheted so many balaclavas and other little crocheted items, made jewelry, some very simple furniture.
Another thing you might know me for is through my involvement and work with the Freak Society. Freak Society is an arts collective that my friends and I run in Chicago. We host events in Chicago that center around building community, sharing knowledge, and supporting local artists. We host a yearly film festival, monthly figure drawing events, watch parties/discussions for short films, and a ton of other small, one-off skill share colabrative classes.
If you are here, curious about my work with Freak Society, or are wanting to talk about being a part of one of our events, or have an idea for an event, totally feel free to contact me, from here, or through the instagram link to the Freak Society's instagram.
If you're intersted in reaching out, the best way of contacting me is by email.
